Ultrasonic Metering Meets Environmental Challenges

Ultrasonic flow meter Thermal Mass Flow Meters are a critical tool in helping address the planet’s environmental challenges, and have been employed in a variety of applications dedicated to reducing carbon emissions associated with Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Many Greenhouse Gas Protocols such as the Landfill Project Protocol, the US Livestock Project Protocol, and the Organic Waste Project Protocol as well as the KYOTO Protocol provide mechanisms that require measurement of Greenhouse Gases. These include Certified Emission Reductions (CER), a credit system, and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which encourages investment in sustainable development projects that reduce emissions. For example, decomposition of livestock waste on farms results in vast sums of Methane naturally venting to the atmosphere. However, by capturing this Methane (CH4) with an anaerobic digester, the biochemical reaction converts the CH4 into a mix of 65% Methane and 35% CO2. Since CH4 is 21 times more detrimental than CO2 as a Greenhouse Gas, the result is a net reduction in GHG emissions.
Ultrasonic Metering helps quantify the emissions that are saved by measuring the mass flow rate, even at very low flows, and by providing a very easy way to conduct the required periodic calibration field check with its unique In-Situ Calibration procedure.
